Basildon Utd 5 Great Wakering Rovers 1
The boys are seriously back on track after a tough
cup game at Bishops Stortford and hard fought draw at Thurrock, the boys totally
overwhelmed their visitors.
We started very brightly, moving the ball around
and using the flanks often, whipping balls in to suit the style of our play.
With a full complement of players back from injury the run in looks
healthy.
could've been 1 up after 20 mins only for Mike
Finneran to have been adjudged slightly offside
hich was a close call. Basildon
continued to press and close down and forced the game in the final
third...Reward soon came for their efforts,a right sided corner from Danny Brown
was only partially cleared and fell to Chris Brown who hit the most sweetest of
strikes on the half volley and almost broke the net from a full 25
yards.Basildon were so dominant the inevitable was to happen, wakering forced a
rare attack and managed to squeeze home a leveller from also a right sided
corner bang on half time..... 1-1 at the break.....
Basildon continued in the same vein in 2nd
half....Mike Finneran enjoyed a great personal 45 mins by bagging a hatrick.He
made it 2-1 with a a bit of goal mouth melly but somehow prodded the ball home
arguably off the defenders legs but we'll give him the
benefit.....lol....
No mistake with the 3rd after some neat one touch
football fashioned space down the right, the cut back was well weighted and Mike
had the simplest of tasks of tucking it away for his 2nd.Made a couple of changes with Joe Russell and Dom
Graham-Older coming on for Luke Winter and joe Clark. Instant impact as Dom
worked a bit of magic and found Joe on the right, who cut inside rounded the
keeper and slid the ball home from a yard at the near post to make it 4...
Finners had the last word which isn't abnormal.....found himself with time and
space to fire across the keeper with a neat finish into the bottom left
corner......so finners walks off with the match ball which he must of coz we
lost one.............
So a very satisfying day at the office capped with
some good football and a great result which hardly flattered us.....lets just
keep improving and staying fit, because we are in the pot for success.......now
for Southend manor :-) .....bonjour
